This 16th cent. Ottoman Castle was built over an early

Christian basilica (ca. 4th-7th cent. and possibly the city's 1st cathedral) and a previous 12th cent. castle. According to tradition, this is also the spot where Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre in 1191. She was subsequently crowned Queen of England.
